What sounds more outlandish and mythical, taking mind trips in meditations to airy fairy imaginary places, imagining whatever you wish, seeking the latest New Age fad (tarot/angel/animal/oracle cards or readers), complete with its substitution of Masters and Ascended Masters who people only see in their minds eye, or, believing in a God in heaven who is guiding his people throughout history, sending prophecies through prophets – prophecies that actually come true hundreds of years after they are proclaimed, believing in this God who sent his one and only son, Jesus – a real historical figure, to show us how to live with the promise of the Kingdom of God to come?
Both sound rather fantastic.
So often I hear people are disillusioned with their faith, or come to a crisis of faith. Something went wrong, so they gave up all together. Someone did not respond they way they “should” have, or someone “said the wrong thing,” and worse yet, they go to church looking for a spiritual lift, only to find with their own personal growth, they feel empty from the sermon they received, or have the feeling like they could have given a much deeper message themselves. Who wants that when we go to the church to be spiritually fed?
I have spent most of my life in deeply religious circles. I have spent the last dozen years deeply entrenched in New Age circles, and even giving the New Age meditations, and holistic sessions to assist people on their journey for spiritual and physical healing. People are very hungry to feed their souls. Not feeding our souls with accurate knowledge makes us spiritually sick, which sometimes even spills over into mental or physical sickness. What I see happening is a huge sway away from organized religion, in almost every denomination. People are clinging to almost anything now that has a popular appeal, like crystals, Native American culture and reaching for spiritual answers in Pow Wows, or just about anything that is far away from the hurt, or abuse, or anything else that went “wrong” with their religion. Many are looking for “fun,” or “diversion” in their religion quest. Others are simply lost, or free floating.
Let’s look to the real, historical person of Jesus. People back in that day were earnestly looking, watching out for the Messiah, sent from God. It had been foretold. He healed the sick and performed many miracles, but what he really came to earth for was to be a witness to God, our Father, in heaven.
“Therefore Pilate said to him: “Well then, are you a king?” Jesus answered: “You yourself are saying that I am a king. For this reason I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone that is on the side of the truth listens to my voice.” John 18:37
My heart hurts for those of us, myself included, who have traded in their deep spirituality for the fantasy placebo of angels and ascended masters, in place on the One True God in Heaven. My heart hurts to realize that I am among many today, who have watered “God” down so much, that we now call our Heavenly Father, “Source.” You and I are placed in the palm of our Heavenly Father’s hand, and He knows even the number of hairs on our head. His love for us is beyond measure. The One True God is closer to you and me than your and my next breath. But somehow, through a life of spiritual hurt, pain, lack of understanding, and downright refusal for forgiveness in these matters, we have thrown the baby out with the bathwater, and searched for something else to fill the gap in us that only the One True God can fill.
Yes, there are angels, good and powerful angels, like Gabriel who announces good news from God, and Raphael known as the healing angel, andhundreds and thousands more angels. But they do not take the place of the One True God in Heaven. But not all angels are good. As we know, Satan (the devil, Lucifer – whose name means “Light”), tripped on the sin of pride and was cast out of heaven, and has been tempting the human race to turn against the One True God, causing much strife in individuals, in homes, everywhere we go, and even causing strife between nations, and the politics between the nations.
Yes, this all sounds too fantastic to believe, that Jesus could come from God, show us how to live, teach us the secret teachings, if we have thedesire and patience to learn about the coming Kingdom of God. But as for myth, I will leave the myth with the fantasy substitution of New Age trinkets and diversions, that believe in just about anything as long as it is not about the One True God. I encourage everyone to keep seeking, and it will be given to you, to fill your heart to the fullest. Never give up, no matter how many times you have tried before. God will draw your heart to his own.
“Keep on asking, and it will be given you; keep on seeking and you will find’ keep on knocking, and it will be opened to you. For everyone asking receives, and everyone seeking finds, and to everyone knocking it will be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8
